چکیده

ABSTRACT The white dwarf binary pathways survey is dedicated to studying the origin and evolution of binaries containing a an intermediate-mass secondary star spectral type A, F, G, or K (WD + AFGK). Here, we present CPD-65 264, new post-common envelope with orbital period 1.37 d that contains massive ($0.86\pm 0.06\, \mathrm{M}_{\odot }$) ($1.00\pm 0.05\, main-sequence star. We characterized measured using high-resolution optical spectroscopy. parameters are determined from HST In addition, TESS observations revealed up 19 per cent surface covered starspots. Small changes found in light curve indicate second example G-type latitudinal differential rotation. Given relatively large mass short period, future transfer will be dynamically thermally stable system evolve into cataclysmic variable. formation can understood assuming common without contributions energy sources besides energy. 264 seventh secondaries small efficiency equation, agreement findings for M-dwarf substellar companions.

PHL 5038 : A spatially resolved white dwarf + brown dwarf binary

A near-infrared excess is detected at the white dwarf PHL 5038 in UKIDSS photometry, consistent with the presence of a cool, substellar companion. We have obtained Hand K-grism spectra and images of PHL 5038 using NIRI on Gemini North. The target is spatially and spectrally resolved into two components; an 8000 K DA white dwarf, and a likely L8 brown dwarf companion, separated by 0.94 ′′. The s...

A Massive White Dwarf Companion to the Eccentric Binary Pulsar System PSR B2303+46

Pulsars in close, eccentric binary systems are usually assumed to have another neutron star as a companion. These double neutron star binaries have proven to be the best laboratories for experimental General Relativity and are the most secure candidates for gravitational wave interferometers. We present deep B, V , and R images of the field containing the eccentric binary pulsar system PSR B230...

The first binary star evolution model producing a Chandrasekhar mass white dwarf

Today, Type Ia supernovae are essential tools for cosmology, and recognized as major contributors to the chemical evolution of galaxies. The construction of detailed supernova progenitor models, however, was so far prevented by various physical and numerical difficulties in simulating binary systems with an accreting white dwarf component, e.g., unstable helium shell burning which may cause sig...

Helium Nova on a Massive White Dwarf

The 2000 outburst of V445 Puppis shows unique properties, such as absence of hydrogen, enrichment of helium and carbon, slow development of the light curve with a small amplitude that does not resemble any classical novae. This object has been suggested to be the first example of helium novae. We calculate theoretical light curves of helium novae and reproduce the observational light curve of V...

θ Hya : spectroscopic identification of a second B star + white dwarf binary

We report the identification, in an Extreme Ultraviolet Explorer (EUVE) spectrum, of a hot white dwarf companion to the 3rd magnitude late-B star θ Hya (HR3665, HD79469). This is the second B star+white dwarf binary to be conclusively identified; Vennes et al. (1997), and Burleigh & Barstow (1998) had previously reported the spectroscopic discovery of a hot white dwarf companion to the B5V star...
